Wells Good Afternoon Choir are champion charity fundraisers for 2023, after raising £3,750.60 for the PAPYRUS charity during concerts and other events throughout 2023.
The 25 Good Afternoon Choirs across the West of England, chose with a members vote, who they will support each year. In 2023 over £30,000 was raised by Grenville’s choirs.
Cathy Allen, is a Wells GAC member, she said;
“I was really thrilled when the Wells GAC voted to support Papyrus last year, following my daughter Elizabeth's suicide. A big thank you to the choir for all their support and to everyone in the Wells area who came to our concerts!”
PAPYRUS is a charity for the prevention of suicide in young people across the UK.
“I hope we have raised awareness of young suicide and done something to help anyone affected. During last year, Papyrus's helpline has become available 24/7 for anyone needing help or concerned about somebody. Our money will go towards manning those phones and training volunteers,” added Cathy.
Wells Good Afternoon Choir have now cast their vote for 2024. They will be fundraising for the I SEE YOU community social fund, bringing music to elderly care home residents.
Their first fundraising concert for the new charity will be on Saturday March 9 in St Thomas’ Church, Wells, where they will be hosting a concert with special guests Launceston Male Voice Choir.
