The Newquay Good Afternoon Choir rehearse every Thursday afternoon at St Michael's Church Hall from 1.00-3.00pm.
Grenville Jones, the founder of the Good Afternoon Choirs is delighted that Barry Hawken is the leader of the Newquay Good Afternoon Choir.
Barry has had a long involvement with music both in the brass band world and with a variety of choral groups. As a freelance music practitioner working with six feeder Primary Academies he has worked with upwards of 800 children each week. Barry has delivered projects for English Touring Opera, the Foundation for Youth Music, Hall for Cornwall as well as Truro Cathedral outreach. For a number of years he was one of the vocal leads working with the Cornwall Youth Choirs. Barry also had a twelve-month project on the Isles of Scilly for the Government’s ‘Sing-Up’ programme. He is currently the Musical Director of the Imerys Mid Cornwall Choir and is the choral researcher for the Cornish Music Archive.
A warm welcome awaits any new members, there are NO auditions and everyone is welcome! There is no charge for attending your first rehearsal. Come alone or with a friend – either way Barry and the Choir will be pleased to meet you. You will be joining over 1,000 people singing at Good Afternoon Choirs around the South West and beyond!
Membership forms are available to collect at every rehearsal. The choir rehearsals are in 4 terms of 10 weeks and members pay £58 per term – this covers room and piano hire, music, admin and musician fees. You do not need to join at the start of a term, you can simply come along to any rehearsal and pick up a membership form should you wish to join the choir – your fee will then be worked out for the remainder of that term.
If you have any questions about the Choir please contact Tracey or Karin at Grenville's office in Westfield/Midsomer Norton via e-mail [email protected] or tel 01761 472468.
