The Thornbury Good Afternoon Choir now has over 60 members attending the weekly rehearsals. The choir meets every Thursday afternoon from 1-3pm at Thornbury United Reformed Church. Grenville Jones, the founder of the Good Afternoon Choirs is delighted that Ben England who also leads our Bristol Good Afternoon Choir & North Somerset Good Afternoon Choirs leads our Thornbury choir.
Ben studied music at the University of Bristol, specialising in conducting and choral music. He is a singer/pianist/guitarist who is in demand as a soloist across the South West. Ben has led choirs and singing groups in and around Bristol for over 20 years, and has worked with groups of all sizes and all ages. An Advanced Skills Teacher, Ben was until 2016 Director of Music at Colston's Girls’ School. He is also the Musical Director of the Bristol Gilbert and Sullivan Society. See Music Team.
The rehearsals run from 1pm - 3pm, there are no auditions and everyone is welcome. The Thornbury Good Afternoon Choir enjoys all sorts of music – from folk songs to choral favourites. Many of the people in the Good Afternoon Choirs have never sung in a choir before, however each of the choirs has over 100 members! There is NO charge for attending your first rehearsal and membership forms are always available.
The choir rehearsals are in 4 terms of 10 weeks and members pay per term, this covers room hire, music, admin and musician fees. You DO NOT need to join at the start of a term, you can simply come along to any rehearsal and pick up a members form should you wish to join the choir - your fee will then be worked out for the remainder of that term.
If you have any questions about the Choir please contact Nikki at Grenville's office in Westfield/Midsomer Norton for any information, by calling 01761 472468 or emailing gac@grenvillemusic.co.uk – or just come along to your first free session with a friend of course!
