The Thornbury Good Afternoon Choir rehearse every Thursday afternoon at Thornbury United Reformed Church from 1.00-3.00pm.
Grenville Jones, the founder of the Good Afternoon Choirs is delighted that Brendan Casey is the leader of the Thornbury Good Afternoon Choir.
Hailing from New Zealand, Brendan made his professional debut at 19 in Canterbury Opera’s A Christmas Carol. He completed a BMus (Hons) in Vocal Performance at Victoria University before joining the NZ Opera chorus and has since has appeared in a large number of professional productions, workshops, World premieres and cast recordings. He toured New Zealand with Class Act Opera and the acclaimed vocal ensemble Sings Harry. He filmed a number of TV commercials, sang on TV1’s Good Morning, TV2’s Showcase and appeared in the blockbuster movie Avatar.
His lead roles include Don Giovanni, The Barber of Seville, Chess, Guys and Dolls, Calamity Jane, Footloose, Les Miserables among many others. He played the title role in Beauty and the Beast at the Bristol Hippodrome and was a featured performer in their 100th anniversary celebrations. He took up the baton in 2013 and has conducted a number of musicals and ensembles throughout the Southwest and returned to the Hippodrome to conduct Bristol Light Opera’s Christmas musical Elf in November 2022. He continues to be active as a corporate performer and private teacher and as of 2021, is the conductor of the Thornbury Good Afternoon Choir.
A warm welcome awaits any new members, there are NO auditions and everyone is welcome! There is no charge for attending your first rehearsal. Come alone or with a friend – either way Brendan and the Choir will be pleased to meet you. You will be joining over 1,000 people singing at Good Afternoon Choirs around the South West and beyond!
Membership forms are available to collect at every rehearsal. The choir rehearsals are in 4 terms of 10 weeks and members pay £58 per term – this covers room and piano hire, music, admin and musician fees. You do not need to join at the start of a term, you can simply come along to any rehearsal and pick up a membership form should you wish to join the choir – your fee will then be worked out for the remainder of that term.
If you have any questions about the Choir please contact Tracey or Jody at Grenville's office in Westfield/Midsomer Norton via e-mail [email protected] or tel 01761 472468.
