The Wells Good Afternoon Choir rehearse every Tuesday afternoon at St Thomas Church, Wells from 2.00-4.00pm.
Grenville Jones, the founder of the Good Afternoon Choirs is delighted that Ruth Jenkins is taking over as the leader of the Wells Good Afternoon Choir.
Ruth graduated in Music at Birmingham University, specialising in voice and conducting the University Chamber Choir. After training as a Music Therapist at Roehampton Institute, and conducting the Wimbledon YMCA choir, she worked in the NHS for 7 years in school and hospital settings. Since training as a teacher at Warwick University, Ruth has spent the last 15 years teaching music in primary schools and two of her children’s choirs have delighted audiences in recent years as guest performers for Wells GAC. Ruth sings regularly for St Thomas’ Church.
A warm welcome awaits any new members, there are NO auditions and everyone is welcome! There is no charge for attending your first rehearsal. Come alone or with a friend – either way Ruth and the Choir will be pleased to meet you. You will be joining over 1,000 people singing at Good Afternoon Choirs around the South West and beyond!
Membership forms are available to collect at every rehearsal. The choir rehearsals are in 4 terms of 10 weeks and members pay £58 per term – this covers room and piano hire, music, admin and musician fees. You do not need to join at the start of a term, you can simply come along to any rehearsal and pick up a membership form should you wish to join the choir – your fee will then be worked out for the remainder of that term.
If you have any questions about the Choir please contact Tracey or Jody at Grenville's office in Westfield/Midsomer Norton via e-mail [email protected] or tel 01761 472468.

Christmas Break
Christmas Concert - December 2025
Wells GAC held a lovely Christmas Carol Celebration at St Thomas' Church joined by children from St Cuthbert's Junior School. Deputy Mayor Cllr Denise Denis also joined in the festive fun.
Leader, Ruth Jenkins, had to make several detours to get to the Church due to flooded roads into Wells but somehow managed to arrive on time and - as you can see - kept smiling!

Concert - October 2025
Well done to Wells GAC! Their concert on Friday 17th October at St Thomas’ church was well attended by the local community, raising another huge amount of money towards the choir’s total for Wells Scouts this year. The choir sang beautifully with a variety of songs including Perry Como’s ‘Catch A Falling Star’, John Rutter’s anthem ‘Look At the World’ and popular songs ‘Those Were the Days’ and ‘We Are the Champions’. The choir invited the ‘Wriggle Valley Jazz Band’ from Sherborne to guest whose performance was a real treat, with solos from keyboard, trumpet, clarinet, trombone, drums, banjo and sousaphone!

Concert March 2025
The Wells GAC community choir concert for Wells Scouts on Saturday 22 March at St Thomas' Church proved again how a raffle is a brilliant way of raising money - the total being £673.04. The photos above show the choir in action and Leader, Ruth Jenkins, with the mayor.
Concert November 2024
Wells Good Afternoon Choir invited the fabulous Brue Boys to be their Special Guests at a performance in St Thomas' Church on Saturday November 2nd.

Christmas 2022
Below are some pictures from our fantastic Christmas Celebration Concert with children from St Cuthbert's CofE Junior School and Horrington Primary School on Monday December 12th. Everyone sang beautifully!
Hear the Wells Good Afternoon Choir and conductor Grenville Jones performing 'Singing in the Rain' on Wells Cathedral Green in May 2022. It was a rather wet afternoon so the song was quite apt for the occasion!
