The South Somerset Good Afternoon Choir rehearse every Monday afternoon at Wincanton War Memorial Hall from 1.00-3.00pm.
Grenville Jones, the founder of the Good Afternoon Choirs is delighted that Ruth Jenkins is the leader of the South Somerset Good Afternoon Choir.
Ruth graduated in Music at Birmingham University, specialising in voice and conducting the University Chamber Choir. After training as a Music Therapist at Roehampton Institute, and conducting the Wimbledon YMCA choir, she worked in the NHS for 7 years in school and hospital settings. Since training as a teacher at Warwick University, Ruth has spent the last 15 years teaching music in primary schools and two of her children’s choirs have delighted audiences in recent years as guest performers for Wells GAC. Ruth sings regularly for St Thomas’ Church.
A warm welcome awaits any new members, there are NO auditions and everyone is welcome! There is no charge for attending your first rehearsal. Come alone or with a friend – either way Ruth and the Choir will be pleased to meet you. You will be joining over 1,000 people singing at Good Afternoon Choirs around the South West and beyond!
Membership forms are available to collect at every rehearsal. The choir rehearsals are in 4 terms of 10 weeks and members pay £58 per term – this covers room and piano hire, music, admin and musician fees. You do not need to join at the start of a term, you can simply come along to any rehearsal and pick up a membership form should you wish to join the choir – your fee will then be worked out for the remainder of that term.

Concert - November 2025
What a fabulous time was had by all who attended the South Somerset GAC charity concert at Wincanton Memorial Hall on Sunday November 16th when the Choir welcomed special guests Somerton Concert Band.
Come and Sing! - June 2025
South Somerset Good Afternoon Choir welcomed people to Wincanton Methodist Church for an afternoon sing-along with tea, cake and some delicious looking scones!
Concert March 2025
South Somerset GAC hosted a concert on Saturday 29th March at a packed Wincanton War Memorial Hall with Somerton Concert Band as their special guests. Ruth Jenkins, the Choir Leader, surprised her choir members by playing the trumpet with the Somerton Concert Band!

Christmas Concert 2023
The South Somerset Good Afternoon Choir had a wonderful Christmas concert with the children of Our Lady of Mount Carmel Catholic Primary School as their special guests at Wincanton War Memorial Hall in December 2023.
Our First Concert!
Our image shows the Top Brass & Wind Concert Band at the fundraiser held at a packed St Mary’s in Gillingham on Saturday Nov 18. It featured the very FIRST performance of our South Somerset gac. Their leader Ruth Jenkins also starred as a soloist with the Band and Grenville conducted the choir for this concert in his own inimitable style with Ruth on piano. The concert supported dementia friendly Gillingham. A BIG well done to the lovely choir and here’s to the next public performance 🎶
