North Somerset Good Afternoon Choir - New Leader

​The popular North Somerset community Good Afternoon Choir will have a new leader and MD when they start back after their Summer break on Wednesday September 4 at Nailsea Methodist Church.
 
Andrew Kirk will take over from Ruth Jenkins who has stood down since starting and leading the choir, she has moved house away from the area.
 
Andrew is a freelance choral director, accompanist and composer/arranger working mainly in the Bristol and North Somerset area.  He is the Musical Director of Henbury Singers, as well as playing the organ and conducting choirs at various churches on Sundays. He has worked with all age ranges of singer over a 30 year career, in a variety of styles. He was Director of Music at St Mary Redcliffe Church Bristol for two decades, a highlight of which included a live BBC1 TV broadcast on Christmas Day!
 
There are no auditions to join the North Somerset Good Afternoon Choir and new prospective members are always welcome to go along to meet Andrew and the Choir any Wednesday from 1pm-3pm in Nailsea Methodist Church.

Highworth with Shrivenham Good Afternoon Choir - New Leader

The Highworth with Shrivenham community Good Afternoon Choir will have a new leader when they start back after their Summer break on Wednesday September 4 at Highworth Community Centre.
 
Sarah Summers, who also leads North Swindon Good Afternoon Choir, takes over from Jessie Thompson who has stood down since starting and leading the choir to pursue her PhD.
 
Sarah has been leading community choirs for several years and has taught Music in Primary School's, as well as working with piano students for all of her adult life.  She loves singing and particularly likes the focus that Community Choirs have on having fun.
 
Sarah has enjoyed playing keyboard and working with singers on three Chocolate Theatre Shows and was involved in the Summer Youth Project at Swindon's Wyvern Theatre.
 
There are no auditions to join the Highworth with Shrivenham Good Afternoon Choir and new prospective members are always welcome to go along to meet Sarah and the Choir any Wednesday from 1pm-3pm in Highworth Community Centre.

Bath Good Afternoon Choir - New Leader

​The popular Bath community Good Afternoon Choir will have a new leader when they start back after their Summer break on Thursday September 5 at Widcombe Baptist Church, Bath.
 
Tanya Davidson will take over from Grenville Jones who has stood down after his 15 years, since starting and leading the choir. His increasing travel commitments with his 35 choirs across the West and London and as founder of the Golden-Oldies Charity and Goldies Cymru (in Wales) have forced his decision to stand down.
 
Tanya is a pianist and soprano, based in Warminster and was previously accompanist for the Jane Lilley Singers. She has led youth choirs and musicals, directed and performed in many local theatre productions, and for several years was Assistant Musical Director and Accompanist for Warminster Military Wives Choir.
 
There are no auditions to join the Bath Good Afternoon Choir and new prospective members are always welcome to go along to meet Tanya and the Choir any Thursday from 2pm-4pm in Widcombe Baptist Church, Bath.

Churchdown Good Afternoon Choir - New Leader

​The Churchdown community Good Afternoon Choir welcomes a new leader when they start back after their Summer break on Tuesday September 3 at Churchdown Community Centre.
 
Philippa Smith takes over from Laurie Jones who has stood down since starting and leading the choir to pursue his school music teaching career.
 
Philippa studied Performance Arts, including Musical Theatre. Over the years she has explored and taught various genres including Gospel and classical. Throughout her career she has worked as a theatre director, producer, vocal coach and performer.
 
Although the majority of her work has been based in the UK, her work has taken her all over the world including Maylasia and Singapore. Recently she has spent a large amount of time teaching singing to individuals, groups and choirs.
 
“There are no auditions to join the Churchdown Good Afternoon Choir and new prospective members are always welcome to go along to meet Philippa and the Choir any Tuesday from 12.30pm-2.30pm in Churchdown Community Centre.” Said choir founder Grenville Jones.

Wells Good Afternoon Choir - New Leader

The popular Wells community Good Afternoon Choir will have a new leader and MD when they start back after their Summer break on Tuesday September 10 at St Thomas’ Church, Wells.
 
Ruth Jenkins will take over from Grenville Jones who has stood down after his seven years, since starting and leading the choir. His increasing travel commitments with his 35 choirs across the West and London and as founder of the Golden-Oldies Charity and Goldies Cymru (in Wales) have forced his decision to stand down.
 
Ruth graduated in Music at Birmingham University, specialising in voice and conducting the University Chamber Choir. After training as a Music Therapist at Roehampton Institute, and conducting the Wimbledon YMCA choir, she worked in the NHS for 7 years in school and hospital settings. Since training as a teacher at Warwick University, Ruth has spent the last 15 years teaching music in primary schools and two of her children’s choirs have delighted audiences in recent years as guest performers for Wells GAC. She sings regularly for St Thomas’ Church. 
 
The rehearsal time will revert back to 2pm-4pm and the next concert will be on Saturday November 2 at St Thomas’ Church supporting ‘I See You’ Charity with The Brue Boys as special guests. This will be Ruth’s first concert with the Wells Good Afternoon Choir.
 
There are no auditions to join and new prospective members are always welcome to go along to meet Ruth and the Choir.
